Democratic candidates have projected a majority in the U.S. Senate, stripping Republicans of control over both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections. While media outlets confirm Democratic gains across key states, President Donald Trump attributed the Republican defeat to the ongoing war in Iran, though he denied that the results reflected on his administration.

Democratic candidates have projected a majority in the U.S. Senate, stripping Republicans of control over both chambers of Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, according to projections from major media outlets including NBC, CNN, and the Associated Press. The outcome marks a significant shift in legislative power, with Democrats securing gains in states that had previously been Republican strongholds.

In the Senate, Democrats are projected to hold 51 seats out of 100. Key victories included Josh Turek defeating Republican Ashley Hinson in Iowa and Democratic candidates taking seats in Texas, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Kansas. In Kansas, the loss marked the first time since 1932 that Republicans ceded a Senate seat to Democrats in the state.

In Texas, James Talarico was projected as the winner, while Sherrod Brown secured victory in Ohio. In North Carolina, Roy Cooper defeated Republican Michael Whatley, flipping a seat in a state where the Republican Party has historically dominated presidential elections. In South Carolina, Annie Andrews was projected to win the seat previously held by the late Senator Lindsey Graham, whose sister Darline Graham ran with President Trump’s support.

The Democratic majority in the Senate was further solidified by Jon Ossoff’s victory in Georgia, where he defeated Republican Mike Collins. Ossoff, a potential candidate for the 2028 presidential election, secured his seat amid early projections from CNN and other networks. The "blue wave" extended to Michigan, where Abdul El-Sayed became the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate, completing Democratic control of both chambers.

In the House of Representatives, Democrats are projected to hold at least 244 seats compared to Republicans’ 191, securing a majority in all 435 contested seats. This ends Republican control of the House, which they have held since the 2022 midterms.

President Trump addressed the results in a telephone interview with Fox News, stating that the war in Iran was "partially" responsible for the Republican defeat. He congratulated Democrats, saying they "did a good job" and "fought well." However, he distanced himself from the outcome, arguing that midterm elections rarely favor the incumbent party regardless of performance.

Trump took to Truth Social to deny personal responsibility, writing, "I was not on the ballot and if I were, we would have won by a landslide!" He insisted that voters did not view the results as an assessment of his management or the Iran conflict, which he claimed people supported. While acknowledging the impact of rising fuel prices, he maintained that the losses had "nothing to do with my cabinet" and attributed the outcome to a general political atmosphere rather than specific policy failures.
